Ice Cores Prove Climate Change is Caused by Humans
With more climate data regularly available to scientists, we know more about our environment than ever before. But, there are just so many ways to use the data, and it is important that it is used to bring awareness to imminent danger our world is in.
Of course, we need to remember that climate change is not an issue for tomorrow. We are living it now. And, if we want to save the world, it would be helpful to find ways to manage it now, like converting to renewable energy.
A team of scientists from MIT published a paper that presents an innovative approach to help the environment.
They used ice cores to measure temperature from many different eras. The idea is to look back ten thousand years, and create a record of how the environment evolved. Ice has frozen layer by layer over millions of years, and each layer has different materials in it depending on the air that the top layer of ice was exposed to at the time. More and more ice freezes over itself, literally freezing that type of air in time.
This provides a great way to learn about the era, or when a specific layer of ice was on the surface. This allows scientists to understand not only the environmental changes of the past, but also the people and animals that lived at the time.
It is through ice cores that we know temperature rise has never been as bad or drastic as it is today, which points to a clear, unnatural cause — human pollution.
