Agricultural Industry Consuming 80% of Fresh Water
Fresh water is becoming more scarce as the global population rises at an alarming rate. Water scarcity means that people will be unable to use the rivers and lakes they rely on for drinking water.
Water has become scare in may states really, such as California that has been experiencing extreme drought for almost a decade.
In the last few years, the water demand in cities like New York, Shanghai, and Singapore has increased almost to double its previous water consumption.
But the biggest threat to fresh water on earth in the agricultural industry. Up to 80 precent for all fresh water goes into this industry while only 12 precent goes into everyday use. This means that while limiting your water consumption is good, major changes need to be made to the agricultural industry to make it more water efficient.
Now, for the first time ever, a new kind of solar concentrator may join the long list of green technologies. It will be the first of its kind.
While the United States can always fall back on the Great Lakes for water, it is important we Americans help other countries conserve water because we are all human and everyone deserves a nice glass of water.
